ABOUT

Cathy Wield, daughter of a British diplomat, lived most of her childhood overseas but was educated at boarding schools in the UK.

She married Phil during her medical training. After qualifying as a doctor, she chose to stay at home to raise her 4 children, until she role swapped with Phil to start her medical career where she specialised in Emergency Medicine.

Even though she wrote two previous books – her most recent memoir ‘Unshackled Mind; a doctor’s story of trauma, liberation & healing‘ is her most important work; it follows her disillusionment with the traditional biomedical model of psychiatry and her change of mind which leads to her healing from a troubled childhood and the re-traumatisation of longterm psychiatric care.

‘Unshackled Mind’ is available through the publisher The Book Guild, all bookshops in the UK and Amazon.

Cathy re-discovered the joys of creative writing while living in Denver, Colorado and has run workshops using the ‘free writing’ technique.

Cathy Wield’s passions now focus on the need to speak out about the harms she suffered needlessly as a result of the medicalisation of her problems. She is determined that her change of mind is now visible to anyone who has read her previous books.
